The Maine State Bar Association or MSBA was founded in 1891 as an organization to promote and protect the interests of the legal profession in the state. At the time, membership to the group cost one dollar per year, which 281 attorneys paid in full.
From the start, the group had a progressive reputation and even admitted a female attorney named Eva Bean to the MSBA in 1911. It became one of the first state bar associations to raise money to assist people of limited financial means gain access to legal services.
Today, the MSBA is headquartered in Augusta and has around 3000 members. Its Board of Governors meets on a regular basis to discuss matters like communication, budgeting, and governance. The 11 members come from various jurisdictions around the state.

This resource lets people become an active part in their own cases. The website also has the MSBA’s updated attorney directory with the names and contact details of attorneys in all legal areas.
