The Idaho State Bar is an integrated bar association that requires membership of the attorneys who practice in the state. Admission to the bar is required before an attorney can represent clients or take cases in the state of Idaho.
The bar is headquartered in Boise and was founded as a voluntary organization in 1881. however, membership became compulsory in 1923 upon an act of the state’s legislature. It currently operates as a self-governing state agency under the authority of the Idaho Supreme Court. It has five governing members who serve staggering three year terms. The five governing members come from the seven individual districts within the state of Idaho.
